Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how you use the site.

Corelance uses cookies and similar technologies to provide, protect, and improve our platform. This policy explains what cookies we use and why.

In this policy, "cookies" is used as a convenient shorthand. Where we say cookies, we also mean the similar technologies described in Section 2, which serve the same purposes and are governed by the same legal rules and consent choices.

2. Similar Technologies We Use

Cookies are not the only way information can be stored on or read from your device. We and our service providers also use the following technologies, which we treat as "cookies" for the purposes of consent and your choices under this policy:

  • Local storage and session storage: Browser storage (the Web Storage API) used to keep your interface preferences, draft form data, and session state on your device. Unlike cookies, these are not sent to our servers with every request.
  • Pixels, web beacons, and tracking GIFs: Tiny, often invisible image requests embedded in pages or emails that let us and our analytics providers record that a page was viewed or an email was opened.
  • Software development kits (SDKs): Code libraries embedded in our products (including any mobile or embedded experiences) that can read and write device identifiers and usage data for analytics, support, and security.
  • Device and browser characteristics: Information such as screen size, browser type, and IP-derived approximate location used to secure your session and prevent fraud.

The legal basis, consent requirements, and controls described in this policy apply equally to these technologies, not only to traditional HTTP cookies.

We currently do not use marketing cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy and request your consent before setting any marketing cookies.

4. Legal Basis for Using Cookies

Under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy Directive (and national implementations such as the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), the rules differ depending on what a cookie does:

  • Strictly necessary (essential) cookies are set without asking for your consent. They are exempt from the consent requirement because they are strictly necessary to deliver a service you have explicitly requested (for example, keeping you logged in and protecting your session). Where these cookies process personal data, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating a secure, functioning platform, and on the necessity of performing our contract with you, as the legal bases under Article 6 GDPR.
  • All other cookies— functional, analytics, and marketing — are set only with your prior, freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent, collected through our cookie banner before any non-essential cookie is placed. Consent is the legal basis under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and the applicable ePrivacy rules.

You are free to refuse or withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time, and doing so will not affect your ability to use the essential functions of the platform. Refusing consent is as easy as giving it. We do not use pre-ticked boxes, and continuing to browse is not treated as consent.

5. Third-Party Cookies and Processors

Some cookies and similar technologies are set by third-party service providers that we engage to operate the platform. These providers act as our processors or, for their own purposes, as independent controllers. We use the following providers:

Stripe— payment processing and fraud prevention (essential for transactions). See the Stripe cookie settings and the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics— aggregated usage analytics (set only with your consent). See How Google uses cookies and the Google Privacy Policy.

Intercom — customer support chat (functional). See the Intercom Cookie Policy and the Intercom Privacy Policy.

International transfers. These providers are based in, or may process data in, the United States and other countries outside the EEA and the UK. Where cookie data is transferred internationally, we and our providers rely on appropriate safeguards under Chapter V GDPR — including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum) and, where applicable, certification under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework — to ensure your data receives an essentially equivalent level of protection. You can request more information about these safeguards using the contact details below.

These third parties have their own privacy and cookie policies, which govern their independent processing. We encourage you to review them.

6. Managing Cookies and Your Consent

6.1 Cookie Preferences

When you first visit Corelance, you'll see a cookie banner asking for your preferences. You can change these preferences at any time by clicking the cookie icon in the footer.

6.2 Withdrawing or Changing Consent

You can withdraw or change your consent for non-essential cookies at any time, and withdrawing is as straightforward as granting consent:

  • Open the cookie preferences panel from the cookie icon in the footer of any page.
  • Toggle any category — functional, analytics, or marketing — on or off, and save.
  • We immediately stop setting cookies in any category you have disabled. Cookies already placed under a withdrawn consent are removed or expire, and you can also clear them through your browser.

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew it, and it will not prevent you from using the essential functions of the platform.

6.3 Browser Settings

Most browsers allow you to control cookies through settings. You can:

  • See what cookies are stored and delete them individually
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Block all cookies
  • Delete all cookies when you close your browser

Note: Blocking essential cookies will prevent you from using Corelance, as they're required for basic functionality like staying logged in.

6.4 Browser-Specific Instructions

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data

7. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track

7.1 Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We recognize and honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. GPC is a browser- or extension-based setting that automatically tells websites you do not want your personal information sold or shared and do not consent to non-essential, cross-context tracking. When we detect a valid GPC signal from your browser, we treat it as a request to opt out of analytics and marketing cookies and of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are defined under U.S. state privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act). We apply the GPC signal without requiring you to take any further action, and we honor it alongside any preferences you set in our cookie banner.

7.2 Do Not Track (DNT)

Some browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature. Because there is no agreed industry standard for interpreting DNT signals, we do not separately respond to them; instead, we rely on the GPC signal above and on the cookie controls described in this policy, which give you clear and enforceable choices.

8. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, through other means.
